About the farm
When was the last time you walked on stilts, danced the “pojšter tanc” (dance with a broom) or played “pisker met” (throwing rocks into an old pot)?
At the Pri Kovačniku farm, they like to revive the olden and forgotten games with their youngest guests. They have a merry company of “living” toys for them: cows, chickens, sheep, Pepca the Vietnamese pig, Marsi the pony, kittens, Muri the dog and rabbits, while the most beautiful couple are Jaka the drake and Mojca the duck who live in the fairytale house next to the pond. Children can have fun on the roller coaster, swing, slide, climbing equipment or the football field. They like it even more when they can help bake bread or cook jam, gather herbs, press apples into juice, and harvest produce from the field when they come to the farm at the right time of year. They can sleep in the hay barn and listen to the sounds of nature.
Mother Angelca and her successor Barbara like to create in the kitchen. You should try the homemade bread with liver pâté or pumpkin spread, cold cuts made from homemade meat products, pork and sausages, delicious desserts, etc.
After you have eaten well (or even before that), you can go out and see the local attractions: the church of Sv. križ, Potnikova smreka (Potnik’s Spruce), Vešner Homestead with an open-hearth kitchen, the Fram oil mill, the Rače Castle, the Požeg Landscape Park, the botanical gardens, the lake of Črno jezero, the Šumik and Skalca waterfalls and others. In winter, you can take to the skis at the largest Slovenian ski centre on Mariborsko Pohorje, 11 kilometres away.
