About the farm
The farm of the Plaznik family, a typical Koroška region celk (isolated farm), which has, to this day, proudly preserved the recognisable Alpine building style, lies on the edge of the Bistra River valley in the vicinity of the town of Črna na Koroškem.
The Plaznik family preserves the tradition of Koroška cuisine in their culinary menu. Guests will have the opportunity to taste koroški želodec salami, kloč noodles, buckwheat štruklji (rolled dumplings), etc. Another one of their specialties are homemade dairy products: cottage cheeses with various flavour-enhancing elements such as pumpkin seed oil and onion; guests are treated to homemade yoghurt in the summer and, if there is plenty of milk, they can also indulge their taste buds with cheeses including various flavour-enhancing elements such as peppers, walnuts, chives, oregano, etc. Guests with a sweet tooth will be mesmerised by the utterly delicious pastry and cakes made by the Plazniks’ daughter, Kristina.
In 2012, the Plaznik family completed construction of the accommodation facilities. They now offer one double room and one room with several beds, an extra bunk and a kitchen niche making it possible for guests to prepare their own meals. The Plaznik family ascribe great importance to the education of young people, which is why they have prepared two interesting programmes: “How are Dairy Products Made?”, within the scope of which children take part in the activities in the cowshed and subsequently learn how fresh milk is processed into the end product – yoghurt, cheese, etc.; and the “Organic Farming” programme, in which they learn the basics of organic farming through active participation in farm chores (feeding of animals, different chores in the fields and on the meadows, gathering herbs, etc.).
During your stay, the hosts will organise trips for you, such as one to the Topla Landscape Park and the Smrečnik tourist farm, etc. You can walk to Mount Peca yourself or visit the town of Črna na Koroškem. You can also simply discover the natural beauty of the surroundings on your own.
