About the farm
Access to the farm: you can drive to Medvedje Brdo from Idrija, Logatec, Godovič or Žiri.
Situated on Medvedje Brdo (Bear Hill), the Šinkovc excursion farm has a marvelous view of the Julian and Kamniške Alps, the Karavanke Mountains, the Polhov Gradec hills, the Ljubljana barje moor, and the Trnovski forests. The hostess serves a variety of traditional delicacies such as homemade salami, pršut (prosciutto), pork, beef, rabbit, young goat, Idrija-style žlikrofi, and good white wines or homemade apple juice.
Footpath runs past the farm and there is a bicycle trail to the marshy Žejna dolina Valley. Places worth seeing nearby include Hotedršica, where you can see a mill built over a sinkhole and a traditional “black” kitchen, Vrhnika and the Museum of Technology in Bistra, Idrija with its mercury mine museum and lacemakers, and very close to the farm, the 11th-century Church of Sv. Katerina.
