Dairy treats at the Levart farm in Dobrnež near Slovenske Konjice

The farm lies in the lowland area of the village of Dobrnež near Slovenske Konjice. The main activity is dairy farming. The farm also has a half-hectare vineyard which produces quality wine.

The high quality of their milk and proximity of the town and potential customers encouraged the farm to venture into milk processing. The decision was slow in coming. Through knowledge and hard work, they built a cheese dairy, a »courtyard shop« and a rustic room for groups of visitors.

Only high quality, raw cow milk is used in milk processing. The farm cows are healthy and content. Only such cows can give full-flavoured, wholesome milk.

As you drive down the road to the farm, you will be greeted by the cows and their calves grazing in the fields.

The farm produces quality milk and other dairy products. The farm owner has attended courses in milk processing in Slovenia and abroad. Visit the farm and see for yourself!

Recommended months: March, July and from September to November

Duration: three hours, arrival at about noon

PROGRAMME:

You will first be taken to see the Fleckvieh cows and their calves grazing on the meadow, then to the barn where the animals are fed and milked. The production of high-quality feed for high-quality milk and other factors that are important for the well-being of the animals will be described, and you will be able to feel and smell the hay. In short, you will learn about the entire procedure from grass to milk.

Afterwards, you will be taken to the cheese dairy and will be able to make your own yoghurt with honey and walnuts.

When you are done with your visit to the dairy, you will be taken to the large rustic room to sample a variety of the farm’s dairy products: plain and fruit yoghurts, soft cheeses and semisoft cheeses named after four children, each one different and special.

You will also be able to sample a semisoft Carthusian cheese made with herbs from the Žiče Charterhouse, some cured meats and home-made wine.

 

All these foods, the best dairy products from Dobrnež, are available at the shop.

The price for the three-hour visit including all meals is EUR 12 per person for groups of more than 20 people.
