Roasting pork sausages in a bread oven at the Karničnik farm in Hrastovec

The Karničnik farm lies five kilometres from Velenje at the edge of the village of Hrastovec. It is a solitary property surrounded by meadows and forests. The farm breeds horses, pigs and poultry. The family is very fond of cured meats and dishes prepared in the bread oven, which they serve to their guests as well.

Progamme:

The programme includes trying your hand at sausage-making. You will make pork sausages, roast them in the bread oven then have them for lunch. While the sausages are roasting, you will be taken to the old chapel that was built in the early 20th century and which played an important role in the survival of the farm. In addition to the pork sausage, you will also be able to try cured horse meat. Farm owner Marko put a lot of attention into its preparation and does not use preservatives. The cured meats are smoked using natural means and dried in air.

Marko’s son Nac will play a few tunes for you on his accordion and keep the mood alive whilst you take your food and drink.

The price for a four-hour visit (including home-made cured meats, pork sausages from bread oven, home-made bread and seasonal side dish) is EUR 12.
